This year marked an important milestone for Target Travel Marketing. Having recently partnered with the Utah Office of Tourism, our team (Arjan Helle and Vivien Hulsebosch) attended the Utah Tourism Conference for the first time. To kick off the experience, they participated in a Rep Retreat prior to the official conference, strengthening relationships with the other representatives and briefing on Utah’s latest developments and tourism goals.
Rep Retreat
The retreat was held in Sevier County, Utah, as part of a multi-day itinerary. Representatives from 9 international markets gathered for training sessions, destination briefings, and familiarization tours. Activities included forest-bathing at the Red Butte Gardens in Salt Lake City, a visit to Fremont Indian State Park, and ATVing or mountain biking. The setting offered a relaxed yet productive environment to lay the groundwork for deeper collaboration during the main conference.
For Arjan and Vivien, the retreat was a prime opportunity to get to know Utah’s local stakeholders and to align on objectives for upcoming co-op marketing efforts. The day’s schedule also included strategic sessions focused on enhancing travel trade partnerships and refining messaging for the Benelux market.
Conference Highlights & Takeaways
The Utah Tourism Conference included keynote sessions, breakout panels, networking with DMOs, and a ribbon-cutting event for the new Utah Film Trail marker at Sunset Point in Bryce Canyon National Park.
Some standout moments:
- Keynote presentations on enhancing destination branding and storytelling.
- Trade-oriented breakout sessions in which we participated in one-on-one meetings with Utah’s regional partners.
- Destination discovery activities that allowed attendees to experience parts of Bryce Canyon and its surroundings.
- The opening reception at Bryce Canyon Rim, which combined networking with a scenic evening event.
Through these interactions, we forged stronger ties with Utah’s tourism leaders and gained clearer insight into their priorities, including the new form of messaging focussed on Utah Forever, that will be the core of all of our activities.
Strategic Value
Overall, the experience exceeded expectations! It reinforced Utah’s position as a top-tier destination and gave our team the hands-on experience, context and contacts necessary to promote it meaningfully. We look forward to helping travelers from the Benelux discover Utah’s unbeatable combination of nature, culture, and adventure.
